About Us
DAVSU is a design office working in furniture, décor and objects, built around a small number of authored collections.
The work begins with material. Jute, in its undyed states and in a small range of considered colors, is the founding category. Every rug in the current collection is made in Bangladesh, in three constructions: Loom, Bouclé and Braided. Each is named for how it is made, not for how it is meant to feel.
Origin
DAVSU is based in Dhaka and operates as DAVSU Ltd., a private limited company incorporated under the Companies Act, 1994 of Bangladesh.
Production is carried out at our family’s facility in northern Bangladesh, under the direct oversight of DAVSU’s founder, who holds the Creative Director role on the floor. The facility has an established export record to Germany, Belgium, the United States, Colombia and Australia. Specification, construction, color and finish are set at the design office and carried through at the loom.
Bangladesh is the origin of the material and the work, and is stated plainly on every product.
Method
Loom rugs are woven on a hand loom. Bouclé is woven on a loom and finished by hand. Braided rugs are braided and sewn by hand, in rounds and ovals.
Colors are held to five: Raw, Ash and Chalk in undyed fibre states, Rainforest and Eclipse in dyed. The range is small by decision. A narrow palette is easier to hold to standard across production runs, and easier to build on.
Direction
Rugs are the first category, not the intended limit. DAVSU is being built to work across furniture, lighting, textiles and objects, under a single set of standards and a consistent design language.
The pace is set by the work rather than the calendar. Each category enters the collection when it can be made to the same specification as the last.
